010 / 365 Day Design Challenge
C.F. Moller Architects — Logo Concept
— Problem
For too long now I’ve been struggling to maintain a consistent workflow, as I’ve been in a downward spiral of ‘perfectionism’.
For me, perfectionism is an annoying quest for the best. It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves, the part that tells us that nothing we do will ever be good enough - that we should try again.
As a designer, I’m finding myself wasting too much time on making my work perfect, constantly criticising myself for not doing a good enough job after spending hours of time and effort on one project. Even though attention to detail is fundamental, I’ve realised that this way of working is very disabling and definitely isn’t healthy for me. Great work comes with making constant mistakes, experiencing trial and error and letting go of making everything pixel perfect.
— Solution
To try and overcome this, I’m setting myself a challenge. For the next 365 days I’m going to create something new every day, without fail, no matter where or how busy I am. Whether it’s a logo, mark, a piece of experimental typography or a digital render, it can be anything depending on what inspires for that day.
I know this will be a huge challenge for me and will take a lot of commitment, but I feel strongly that this will help me overcome the fears and frustration of pursuing perfection within my work.
— Get involved
After receiving an overwhelming response for 365, I have decided to publish a design book at the end of my journey, showcasing all of my designs, along with my processes and challenges faced along the way.
I am aware that other designers struggle with perfectionism on a daily basis, this is why I am inviting all designers to collaborate with me for up to 7 days, joining me in designing something new every day. If you are interested in getting involved and would like to find out more about contributing to the 365 design book, then please get in touch using the email provided.
1. Send your email to hello@tunstall.design
2. Add ‘365 - Collaboration’ into the subject field
3. Please tell me a little about yourself and your design
experience/skills, along with why you would like to
collaborate for 365.
Please note: I will only be selecting a handful of designers/studios who I feel best fit the profile to collaborate.
