Best Record In Baseball
The 1981 Cincinnati Reds hold an ignominious place in baseball history - they finished the season with the best record in the majors and were not invited to the postseason. How could this be? Well, a midseason player's strike forced a shortened schedule and an impromptu playoff reformatting. It was decided the first place team from the first half and the first place team from the second half would meet in the playoffs. The Reds managed to finish in 2nd place in both halves and thus were left out of the playoffs despite winning more games than anyone else. It is high time they got the recognition they deserve.
