Launchpad - Onboarding Concept
See attachment for full resolution. This was one of the original concepts for an app to augment the new hire onboarding process at Intrepid. The goal was to replace the paper packets that new hires are given on their first day with an app that contains the same information in an easy and accessible manner. Since this was an internal project, we wanted to have some fun with the concept to see what we could pull off in a mobile format.
Keeping with space theme of our company brand, the idea was to have a rocket start off at a launchpad and take-off upwards through each sequential step in the side navigation (starting from the bottom): things to know for Day One, Benefits, Culture, Paperwork, and Accounts.
Shown here is a snapshot of what the user sees as the rocket enters the "Accounts" section. By this time, the rocket has entered low Earth orbit, as depicted by the starfield in the background. All the movement and navigation in the app is vertical (swiping up and down to flip between sections), reinforcing the sense of ascension upwards into space. The user moves to the next section after they have flipped through all the pages in this section (currently grayed out).
We ended up building a lesser version of this due to timeline constraints, but the ideation phase of this project was a ton of fun and we had a blast brainstorming various space-themed concepts.
