Remembrance

I knew about a month ago that I wanted to create something for the anniversary of 9/11. Even though I’m not American, it was arguably the most significant historic event of my life so far, not only for what happened that day but also what followed. But what is there left to express about 9/11 that hasn’t already been expressed in the ten years since then? And how do you translate it into a visual language without resorting to imagery of airplanes, burning buildings, horror and mayhem? It took me quite some time figure that out, and without going into the finer details, this is what I made.
