#2 Evergreen (Fir) Tree

Continuing to practice my digital art skills. Yep, drawing trees has turned into a series :)

As I said in my last post, I had struggled with going from black & white to color, so I scaled back on the detail for this one. I wanted this piece to make you feel cold, so blues and purples felt appropriate.

This reminds me of being in Michigan in the winter. I'd go sledding for hours until long after it got dark. The majority of trees shed their coat of leaves during fall, but evergreens stay green year-round (hence the name). In the winter, the snow would pile up and weigh down on their branches and pine needles. Occasionally the snow would topple off without notice and the branches would come whipping up back into place, launching any powder that remained. It was like the trees were having snowball fights. Fond memories of that!
