App design with Adobe XD

I've decided to test out Adobe XD by designing my own app for fun. It's turned out to be an app for sharing your adventures with others, with a focus on beautiful imagery and finding cool spots in nature. Still working on this, so no prototype to try out yet.

I'm super excited that UI/UX designers are getting some awesome tools coming soon. It's hard to tell who will come out on top, Sketch+Craft+Invision or Adobe XD. If Adobe XD manages to create simple tool with as much depth as Sketch+Craft+Invision, I'm sold.

First impressions; it's easy to start designing UI, very similiar to Sketch. The mix of design and prototyping works very well. Linking between shapes and screens is intuitive and easy. You can test and export the prototype easily. The Repeat Grid function is pretty awesome, doesn't have as many features as Craft, but what's there is good.

Now for the negatives. A whole lot of core functionality is missing. Namely; no gradients, blur effects, guides, visual representation of layers, can't select artboards and move them easily, problems with rounding corners on some rectangle shapes for some reason, limited exporting options, can't mirror, prototyping doesn't have as much depth as Invision. But this is only a preview so most of these issues will almost certainly be fixed in the future. Not sure what Adobe's plan is with motion design, if they aren't planning on including any functionality, this is where they might fall behind.

UI design, prototyping and motion design is just going to getting easier. Very happy that UI/UX design is getting some much deserved attention. Looking forward to trying out Skecth+Craft+Invision soon as well.
