Out Front! Artboard

I thought I'd start to show more of my work in progress and how my art boards look in Illustrator as I'm developing ideas, so this is a screenshot of concepts for a new logo.

Out Front! is a series of Jazz gigs and a festival happening in Derby over the next year. It's funded by the Arts Council and the name comes from a Jazz album by Jaki Byard.

We wanted to take inspiration from the album cover (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/60/Out_Front!.jpg/220px-Out_Front!.jpg) and keep the type very black and strong. I played around with calligraphy to try and juxtapose the heavy type and try and reflect modern trends.

The teal comes from a colour palette of four colours (teal, purple, blue and green) which is based on the original purple of the album artwork.
