Falling into Focus: Turning Lens Selection into an Adventure
When designing Hoya’s digital tool, it became clear that gamification was key to enhancing the experience. Choosing the right lenses can often feel overwhelming and clinical, like wandering through a maze of options, much like Alice stumbling through Wonderland. This was an opportunity to turn the process into something engaging, intuitive, and a little cinematic.
With my background in design and film, storytelling and interactivity were leveraged to bridge the gap between Hoya’s brand and its customers. Much like Alice’s journey through Wonderland, where each step leads to new discoveries, the tool takes users on an interactive adventure. By replacing a standard questionnaire with playful mechanics—like a spinning wheel and progress-based unlocking—the lens selection process becomes a journey of its own. It’s no longer a clinical decision but a fun, rewarding exploration that draws the brand and customer closer, making the process feel natural and uniquely Hoya.
Down the Rabbit Hole: A Spinning Wheel of Discovery
Instead of a static questionnaire, I introduced a spinning wheel—turning lens selection into an act of discovery. Each spin unlocks the next question, guiding users step by step to customize their lenses based on their unique needs. Like Alice’s journey through Wonderland, this playful mechanic transforms decision-making into an engaging, visual experience—making the search for the perfect lenses feel intuitive, not overwhelming.
Seeing Through the Looking Glass: A Visionary Experience
Choosing the right lenses isn’t just about features—it’s about seeing the difference. This interactive tool acts as a simulation, letting users experience various lenses in real time. Like Alice peering through the looking glass into a transformed reality, it shifts vision dynamically, showcasing clarity, contrast, and light adaptation in a game-like way.
My role was to design a clean, intuitive interface that seamlessly overlays the moving image—enhancing, not distracting. Inspired by the bold, minimal aesthetic of HCC 360, the design keeps the focus on the experience, making lens selection effortless and immersive.
The Wonderland of Lens Discovery
In Alice in Wonderland, Alice often finds herself at crossroads, faced with many paths to choose from. The lens discovery page mirrors this experience, offering users a world of options, yet guiding them toward clarity. The spinning wheel, the visual simulation, and the lens comparison overview work together to simplify the decision-making process. By laying out all the lens specs in a clear horizontal row, the comparison tool helps users navigate their choices without feeling lost, making it easy to find the perfect match. This combination of intuitive design and playful mechanics turns what could be an overwhelming journey into an engaging, confident adventure.

Much like Alice’s adventure through Wonderland, the journey to finding the perfect lenses with Hoya is filled with discovery and clarity. From the interactive spinning wheel to the visual lens comparisons, every step was designed to guide users through an engaging and intuitive experience—turning what could be an overwhelming process into an exciting adventure. By blending playful mechanics with a clean, cinematic design, the tool allows users to explore their options effortlessly, helping them choose the lenses best suited to their needs.
