Generate as many ideas as possible for the gamify features of the app.
Explore gamification strategies to increase user retention and user engagement.
Identify potential monetization paths from the features.
Gather feedback to refine the features in the upcoming plan.
Expected deliverables
List of ideas and features
The path of monetization of each feature
Prioritizing 2–3 features
Setting the timelines
Preparation
Select a date for the workshop and send invitations to all attendees.
Send the workshop agenda, objectives, and expected deliverables in advance of the workshop.
Arrange the right meeting location, equipped with the required tools.
Agenda
9:00–9:15, Introduction & Overview (15 min)
The facilitator welcomes participants and introduces the agenda and the rules of the workshop, including:
Outlining the workshop structure and goals.
Explaining the importance of gamification for engagement and monetization.
Sharing examples of successful gamified health & fitness apps.
9:16 – 9:30, Ice-Breaker Activity (15 min)
To set a fun tone for the interactive session, all participants must join this game activity:
Ask participants to share a gamified experience they enjoy (e.g., loyalty rewards, fitness challenges, habit-tracking). It doesn’t matter if the activities are ridiculous.
Quick poll: "What motivates you the most? Points, leaderboards, streaks, or rewards?"
9:31 – 10:30, Brainstorming Session (60 min)
The goal: Generate as many gamification ideas as possible for increasing user retention and monetization. All input is encouraged—no idea is too big or small.
The facilitator will separate participants into groups based on their current expertise to generate as many ideas as possible.
Participants write down their ideas on sticky notes and place them in the designated area on the whiteboard.
10:31 – 11:00, Discussion and Affinity Mapping (30 min)
The goal: Organize similar ideas into themes that lead to a list of potential features.
Each group should discuss the key themes and patterns emerging from the brainstorming based on their expertise.
Each group will select and share their top ideas from what they have previously written and discussed. They must describe how the new feature's general mechanics integrate into the app.
11:01 – 13:00, Cool-Off Phase and Lunch Break
3:01 – 13:30, Prioritization Exercise (30 min)
The goal: Rank gamification ideas based on feasibility, impact on engagement, and monetization potential.
The facilitator guides all groups to work together in identifying potential high-impact gamification elements from the previous presentation.
Use the Effort vs. Impact matrix: Quick Wins (High impact, Low effort), Major Projects (High impact, High effort), Low Priority (Low impact, Low effort), Long-Term Bets (Low impact, High effort).
Discuss and refine the top 3-5 gamification features to focus on.
13:31 – 14:30, Feature Detailing (60 min)
The goal: Flesh out the top gamification ideas with more details.
All participants will be regrouped randomly. The new groups will work to find the most feasible outputs, such as:
Feature Description: What does it do? How does it work? and User Flow: Steps users take to engage with the feature.
Present and discuss findings to finalize the details of each gamification feature.
14:31 – 15:00, Roadmap Development (30 min)
The goal: Outline a phased implementation plan for gamification features.
Decide what should be in the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) vs. later iterations.
Assign rough timelines and priorities.
15:01 – 15:30, Summary & Next Steps (30 min)
Recap key insights and chosen features.
Discuss how to test and validate gamification ideas.
