Challenges?

One of the hardest challenges as a designer is creating something unique while maintaining a level of understanding. We walk the line between abstraction, metaphor, and reality, all while keeping the audience in mind.

Logo design for a linear-thinking person is often the furthest thing from how most designers think. However, we must always consider that audience when we design. Our minds meander through metaphors and words that describe a company or brand, hoping to land on something both understandable and satisfying, for ourselves and our clients. This isn’t always the case, but sometimes we have those special moments, and they make the journey worthwhile.

Negative space, in particular, can be problematic, especially when trying not to be influenced by what has already been done. In the end, we seek a sense of satisfaction, and in rare moments, a feeling of pride. Something we are proud to showcase and celebrate. Often, that work comes from personal projects, where we are our own client. But at times, those moments emerge elsewhere as well.

Good luck to all of you out there in pursuit of ideas born from the wandering mind, through metaphors, sketchbooks, and our good friend, Adobe Illustrator. There are many trees in this forest, and on occasion, you’ll stumble upon a mighty oak just beginning its journey. Foster those oaks and let them grow strong.

Thank you.
