Splash screen hover animation prototype for ios mobile app

They leave because they don’t feel a reason to stay.

I saw this firsthand when working on a product that struggled with user retention.

The app was functional, well-designed, and even had great initial traction.

But after a few weeks? Drop-offs skyrocketed.

👉 The issue?

It wasn’t about the features—it was about the engagement loop.

Users had no reason to come back.

Here’s what I did to fix it:

1️⃣ Built habit-forming elements – Gamification, streaks, and personalized progress tracking made users feel invested.

2️⃣ Simplified key actions – Too much friction = drop-off. I redesigned navigation to make every interaction seamless.

3️⃣ Created FOMO & community – Social proof, user leaderboards, and live updates made the app feel alive.

4️⃣ Triggered timely nudges – Smart notifications based on user behavior (not spam!) pulled them back at the right moment.

🚀 The result? Retention rates increased by 40%,

and user engagement more than doubled.

User retention isn’t about forcing users to stay—it’s about giving them reasons to return.

If they don’t feel the pull, they’ll walk away.
