Füles is a well-known crossword magazine in Hungary, first published in 1957. The magazine is named after its mascot, Füles the donkey. The famous mascot was originally designed decades ago by hungarian caricaturist, cartoonist and journalist György Ruszkay.
While they continued to use the original design, they constantly changed it over the years.
In October 2024, the crossword magazine announced a contest to renew their mascot.
The main task was not to completely redesign, rather to reimagine the head of the donkey mascot because they didn’t want a brand new design.
Each mascot variant had to be submitted in colored, monochrome, and black and white versions.
Each designers allowed to submit a maximum of 3 designs.
I have liked the original Füles donkey since I was a kid, so I decided to participate in this contest.
In this Dribbble shot, I will present the 3 versions I submitted.
