Instagram Takeover
I put this together as a response for @ueno for their Epicurrence sponsorship.
They asked for a 200-words or less email, but I felt that they might get a lot of similar responses, and I wanted to stand out. At the same time, I didn’t want it to seem too serious, so Instagram felt like the perfect platform.
This solution gave me an opportunity to show some of my personality, and honestly, it was a ton of fun. I pulled some of the photos from my personal instagram feed, and also wrote some silly captions (who knows if anyone read those or not). I was pleased with the result because it felt very honest to who I am and where I am in my career—not a beginner or a rockstar, but very much in process (and not afraid to have a good laugh, even at myself).
Even though I did not end up winning the sponsorship, I still learned from this experience. It’s always a little vulnerable to put yourself or your work out in front of people—especially brands you admire. But I think learning to see and speak about yourself honestly—rather than faking being perfect and finished—is a great part of maturing, in life and work.
Besides, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, right?
