So what was the brief?

To create a custom illustration of an engineering team working together. This illustration would then be sent to an animator who would animate the image as part of a product explainer intro video.

Design style

The illustration design style I work in is simple, playful, friendly and easy to animate and works really well for tech products and fun eye catching campaigns. See more examples of my illustration work.

Step 1: Pencil sketch ✏️

I first created a pencil sketch of the scene mapping out the composition and sketching out a diverse team of four people sat a desk as if working in a modern open office space. I kept the background as negative space so the animator could add other elements around the figures at the table.

Step 2: Greyscale version ✒️

Next I created a grey scale version of the illustration. This could then be painted using any colour palette to best suit the brand colours and to compliment any other brand assets.

Step 3: Final colour version 🎨

Next I created a grey scale version of the illustration. This could then be painted using any colour palette to best suit the brand and UI colours and to compliment any other brand assets.

Step 4: Animation 📽️

The final step was sending the finished illustration to the animation studio so it could be animated and used in the product explainer intro video.
