Taxi badge driver rate - Better Call Saul
Task
Design a ‘Driver rate’ badge for the taxi app in the style of ‘Better Call Saul’ TV show.
Research
The show doesn’t have many graphic elements that could serve as references. However, I’ve picked out the most recognizable ones—red and yellow colors, playful fonts, and simple geometric shapes.
Saul’s branding stands out from the typical strict lawyer aesthetic because he presents himself as a lawyer for the everyday person. He takes on cases for petty criminals, thieves, and helps them get out of trouble.
His reputation as a “down-to-earth guy” is reflected in the design of his brand materials.
Sketches
The main inspiration for the circular shape came from the jello spot, created by the show’s graphic designer, Alan Chao. The focus is entirely on the handwritten number 5 at the center. Stars and a condensed grotesque font completed the composition, forming the foundation for the chosen design approach.
I experimented with colors, selecting the most striking combinations.
Final design
The final design reflects Saul’s life—a constant risk due to his ties with criminals, which deeply impacted him. This aspect is conveyed through grunge textures, distress effects, distortion, and noise.
