Text and Cursor Rig
In this animation, I focused on two things:
1️⃣ A responsive text paragraph that adapts to its background dimensions or the comp size. In the world of responsive design, this can be a useful asset for both product animation and creating adaptable animated content for different platforms.
2️⃣ A Figma-like cursor with a label that changes position based on the cursor’s movement and interaction with UI elements.
✨ Setup:
- The text follows a rectangle and adapts to its position and width.
- The rectangle reacts to the target layer’s position, adjusting its size and position independently on the X and Y axes.
- The target layer moves around, and its position is the only property animated manually (with just 7 keyframes).
- The cursor and its label follow the target.
🦈 Challenges:
- I built this setup in 2D, so I had to use two compositions with different Z positions to add depth. A true 3D setup would require adding another dimension to the expressions.
- I haven’t yet achieved a perfectly smooth movement of the label when crossing the center of the composition on X-axis (its anchor point and position jump), but fast transitions and motion blur help make it almost invisible.
