We Will Not Be Erased

Less than two weeks into the convicted felon Donald Trump being inaugurated, we’ve already seen a handful of harmful legislations and actions targeting the LGBTQ+ community. From declaring that the United States government will only recognize two genders (in an effort to erase our trans and non-binary brothers and sisters), to removing important information and resources pertaining to HIV and LGBTQ+ people from the official White House website, and laying off federal employees in DEI roles, these are targeted acts of hatred aimed at the Queer community in hopes to suppress our rights and erase our existence. Little do they know, because they continue to ignore American history, Queer and Trans folk have been fighting for equality in this country since its inception. From Ronald Reagan turning a blind eye on our community in the 80’s as our brothers and sister died of AIDS, to the Stonewall Riots where we fought for our rights to gather in public places, we are no strangers to fighting for our rights, our people, and our respect. If these last two days have been any indication of the next four years, we have an uphill battle, but we’ve been here before. We’re resilient, we’re brilliant, and WE WILL NOT BE ERASED.
