Map Design – AlphaMap & Mapbox
Ever think about the UX you use extremely often without noticing how complex it is? Maps.
Whether you’re driving, walking or planning a trip: geospatial design is everywhere. And it’s one of the most fascinating and intricate UX challenges out there. There’s tons that goes into making maps intuitive
:- Choosing the right map style (branded, dark, light, satellite, ..)
- Keeping labels and pins legible across different themes
- Showing just the right amount of detail (pins, labels) as you zoom in or out
- Adapting for context—driving, walking, planning all need different priorities
- Making it work across devices: desktop, mobile, car screens, even smartwatches
- And of course, performance: loading speed and interaction feedback is essential
Attached is some of my work I did for AlphaMap, where I used tools like Mapbox to push boundaries of map UX in a commercial real estate context. There’s tons to explore in this space and it is quite exciting, as it’s an industry which hasn’t matured yet. :)
