Brookes Supervalu Youghal
This was a fantastic project to be a part of! The Brookes family had the wonderful idea of turning their family history and years running this shop in Youghal, Co.Cork into exhibit-like displays for customers to look at as they shopped. The Brookes family trusted us with 4 generations of records, photos, scans and documents to be used for designs. We were blessed with more than enough material to use!
Once we knew what walls/areas of the shop we were working on, we began coming up with concepts. A heart shape came to mind to symbolise the loving community of Youghal, and of course family. We arranged the best of hundreds of photos - that we scanned from the original photographs - into this heart shape, which is cut/broken from a larger rectangle shape to better span the wall we were fitting onto. We were delighted to hear that our clients loved the finished product!
The photos were printed on clear vinyl in reverse, and then applied to the back of acrylic panels cut to shape, and raised off the wall to give it some depth.
We also had the idea of a timeline, going from oldest photos to newest. We got rough dates of the photos from the Brookes family and created eight thin, tall panels which satisfyingly move from black & white to coloured as you follow them. The last panel in particular was a nice touch as it includes current photos of the Brookes family and their children, signalling the new generation of shopowners!
We also designed a larger panel which includes a brief history of the Brookes' family and their shop, titled 'Our Story'. These panels were cut from toughened glass and fixed off the wall to add depth and a premium look.
