Medieval BOAT - ocean simulations
Description
This 3D animation was meticulously crafted for QQ Studio, originally intended for an upcoming film. However, due to budgetary constraints, the scene will not appear in the final production. We’re proud to share it as a testament to our team’s dedication to storytelling through visual effects.
The sequence consists of five captivating cuts, each approximately two seconds long, featuring a meticulously crafted 3D medieval ship brought to life through expert rigging, animation, and simulations.
Night Sequence (2 cuts): The ship sails on medium waves under a moonlit sky, evoking a sense of mystery and adventure.
Day/Morning Sequence (2 cuts): The calm ocean reflects the soft hues of daylight, as the ship glides gracefully through serene waters.
Final Daytime Cut: The ship accelerates dramatically, cutting through the ocean with power and purpose.
Each cut features unique setups tailored to the environment. The sails and ropes respond dynamically to simulated wind and turbulence, while the ocean simulations vary to reflect the distinct wave patterns of each scene. These combined elements create a visually immersive and dynamic portrayal of a medieval maritime journey.
Technical - behind the scenes
Creating this sequence required advanced 3D modeling, rigging, and animation skills to craft and animate the medieval ship’s sails, ropes, and structure. Realistic wind and cloth simulations were applied to ensure dynamic responses to varying conditions, while fluid simulations brought the ocean to life with distinct wave patterns for night, morning, and daytime setups. Lighting expertise was essential to create mood-specific environments, from moonlit nights to vibrant daylight scenes. Rendering and compositing added final touches, combining visuals with color grading and atmospheric effects. The project demanded technical problem-solving, attention to detail.
