Defining the Design language of the Backbase brand

Research results showed us more insights that we have almost everywhere a lack of brand presence, basic problems with design, an unclear typography system, and unclear messages to users and overall bringing cognitive dissonances at some screens to our users, just by the number of elements on the screen at the same time.  We even went deeper into the details of this knowledge by starting to do the visual tests of our current product version and key screens. We decided that it’ll be perfect timing to check design conditions right now and after half of the year compared with what we’ll have.

It is one of the most important screens for making the right impression on the final user, creating a better introduction experience, especially if you add a bit of animation to the splash screen. In this idea, I implemented the Bold principle by using a perspective approach, visually showing the “zoom in” part of steam at the bottom of the screen, after the whole flow moves far away from a user’s eyes. By constructing the logo with lines, I'm showing and illustrating another principle of Backbase — honesty. We are honest with our users and showcase only important information in our interfaces. Overall, this scene symbolises the simplification process created by Backbase. By simplifying and structuring different sources of information, we care not only about the final user, who can easily understand what is most important right now on the screen of my banking app but also how the bank, as our client, will receive these different sources of information.

One interesting detail is that we have background animation on three different screens of the login flow. I created the approach in terms of animation intensity; we are reducing the number of animated elements, their speed, and other animation parameters from the splash screen, which is the entry point of the brand for the user, to the passcode screen. By doing this, we create a strong, bold brand impression while reducing cognitive dissonance and noise from the functional screens.

Stay tuned for some exciting updates on the Backbase design language coming your way soon!
