👀 X Real Follower Counts

While browsing through my profile analytics on X, I noticed a callout indicating the number of “verified followers” I had. From around 1,800 followers, only 210 were verified. In just seconds, I “lost” 1,600 followers, which explains why my engagement rates have been consistently low.

This realization got me thinking: while a user on X might have unverified followers who are actual users (not bots), the objective measurement of influence is how many followers are active enough to be verified and willing to pay for a premium subscription.

What If… X displayed this metric on user profiles for everyone to see. For some users, this could quickly legitimize their authority in their respective fields, while for others (like me), it would expose the reality behind inflated follower counts.

The business and user benefits of this idea are clear. As users, we would be motivated to encourage verified followers to connect or invite others to become verified through unique offers. And in turn, it would benefit X by increasing subscription revenue without them needing to make the “hard sale.”

What do you think? Would you consider subscribing to X Premium and verifying your account? I did, hoping to expand my reach, but it hasn’t worked out for me so far.
