Make it Happen
My lettering career began because of this chalkboard at ASU. This massive chalkboard resides in the COOR hall where students pass by on their way to class. Drawing on it every Saturday back in 2012/2013 allowed me to land my first freelance project — drawing chalk lettering for TGI Fridays as a student in college. Are they still around?!
Countless other opportunities arose because of this lil personal project of mine. It was great to come back to the board that’s been so pivotal in my career and life.
Before the work could begin, I spent a good few hours cleaning the chalkboard. Being in a public space, this board gets used pretty heavily! I scrapped off tape from years ago, deep cleaned the stained chalk markers, removed permanent marker, but one layer of paint persists! So my fellow ASU people, DM me so I can talk to whoever is in charge of cleaning this board! All these years later and I still have no idea who’s in charge of the chalkboard.
Anyway! With the new semester starting up today, I drew this lil bit of motivation for the students to hopefully get inspired on their first day back. Until next time 🫡
