Daily UI - 006 - User Profile
About this shot
Prompt: Design a user profile and be mindful of the most important data, names, imagery, placement, etc. Is it for a serious profile? A social profile? (It's up to you!)
Previous design: In my first attempt (check the link or the comparison below), I designed a simple social profile heavily inspired by Instagram and Facebook. Looking back, I can now identify several issues in that design, such as using the profile picture as a background for some actions and information. In a real application, this could lead to poor contrast, making it hard to read the username or locate the return and options buttons at the top of the screen. Additionally, the overall information layout could be better organized, and I’d definitely remove that gradient (lol).
Redesign Context: For this redesign, I decided to explore a new direction. To give you some background, I’m a football jersey collector, and there’s a vibrant culture surrounding football kits. This ranges from supporters and enthusiasts (like me) to fashion trends inspired by jerseys. Many websites and social profiles focus on documenting jersey history and covering new releases. One of these is the Football Kit Archive, which showcases the kits used by teams worldwide. On this platform, users can contribute by uploading images of undocumented kits, maintain personal collections, and create wishlists. Contributions also boost user ranks, incentivizing participation and keeping the site up-to-date. The platform has significant social media potential because it fosters interaction through features like collections and rankings.
Redesign: With this context in mind, I challenged myself to rethink the Football Kit Archive’s user profile, focusing on the collection functionalities. Here’s what I did:
- Reorganized general information and streamlined key interactions, such as breadcrumbs.
- Highlighted the user’s favorite team and contribution rank.
- Redesigned the tab buttons ("Collection," "Wishlist," and "Additions") to make them more button-like.
- Added a new screen titled "Collection Stats" that provides detailed insights into a user’s collection, such as the total number of jerseys, unique clubs, and kit makers
