Ichiban: a sushi restaurant UI design
Bringing it to life
Enter your text hI always like to find inspiration in other great designers work. You do not wanna copy and paste, but borrow what works and add your own flair to it.
Pinterest and Dribbble are my own go-to-places and I want to give a shout out to one design I found that was very clean and nice by Greg Dlubacz. Check his work out here.
When I started I knew I wanted to have certain key elements to the site:
- Make it SEO optimized by using Yoast along the way.
- Make it easy to order immideately when going the the front page, so repeat customers does not have to do "extra" work.
- Have a fully working delivery function for the site.
- Understand my end user and talk directly to them.
Fun fact
I was greatly inspired by the video game franchise, Yakuza, as it opened my eyes to the interesting history and culture of the Japanese people.
This is also where some of the quotes and characters are inspired from on the webpage, aswell as the name, Ichiban.
“Once you’re at rock bottom, the only way forward is up. But the bottom doesn’t have to be all dark and gloomy. If you can stand and look up, you’ll see the light of hope there.” - Ichiban Kazuga
This game and character inspired me a lot in my life, so I thought it was fitting to use him as inspiration for the site.
Conclusion
In short, I wanted to express my love for sushi by creating a fictional sushi restaurant UI design, with a fully working ordering feature.
I wanted it to follow a brand manual and be based on real user research in Japan, where the fictional restaurant is located.
