If you ask 10 people to define a 'News Cycle', you'll likely get 10 different answers. The concept of a News Cycle is so common within our lexicon, yet so poorly understood. In the era of 24 hours news, there is little separation between news editions, instead news is distributed via feed, occasionally with updates integrated into stories.

This concept suggests grouping news stories based on several different criteria for personalized 'newsworthiness' (e.g proximity, timeliness, prominence) and tracking the coverage of those stories - from breaking news to thought exercise opinion pieces. Once reporting has reached a low enough threshold, the topic will have completed it's cycle. Topics that are tracking along a similar timeframe are grouped within one's own personal 'News Cycle' or 'edition', with past News Cycles able to be accessed via timeline.
