'Tokyo Vice' by Jake Adelstein

Self initiated cover design for "Tokyo Vice" by Jake Adelstein.

Crime reporting of yakuza in Japan is always going to entail a certain cost...the blood droplet mirrors the Japanese Hinumaru flag. Stark black and white headline-style layout was inspired by newspaper design, and the pure white background of the front is contrasted with the dark image on reverse.

This is a digital collage using photography and handdrawn elements. The back cover image was taken by me in Tokyo, near Shinjuku. The final layout was set out in InDesign.
