The Vault Quizzzz is a concept for a part of a Social Media campaign for The Vault. The Vault is an event concept I am co-creating with my team at D'enderend Los Festival, for which I also led the concepting of Ecliptic DJ by Wim Berkers on Dribbble another project in my portfolio.
The Vault Quizzzz concept
To explain The Vault Quizzzz, I will first explain the core concept of The Vault itself.
This is a deceptively simple concept that entails the following: everytime The Vault, which is the event location, opens itself something extremely weird and random happens inside. This could be an evening with a mechanical bull in the venue or a cooking show for example. This is all filtered through a sort of mysterious/comedy/alternate reality view. Also no one inside The Vault has her/his phone so can film what happens inside, so it is fully reliant on word of mouth outside of the storytelling and ques around the universe itself.
To promote this new concept I created the style of The Vault and also ideas for how to bring this universe to life leading up to the first opening of The Vault. The Vault Quizzzz is one of those ideas about an alternate reality gameshow which provides ques about the concept.
The first campaign for The Vault itself is centered around 3 questions which will be cryptically elaborated on in the posts leading up to the concept reveal.
These are the following: 1. What is The Vault?, 2. When is The Vault?, 3. Where is The Vault?
The Vault Quizzzz is focused on question 1. What is The Vault?.
We first established the tone of voice and mood of the universe in which the story of The Vault is told the mysterious, funny, alternate reality. This immediatly gave me the idea "what if there was a quiz about the vault in this universe? This could potentially be a mysterious way to introduce the vibe and mood of the universe while also deigetically focussing on the questions."
So that Idea eventually sparked creation of The Vault Quizzzz.
The quiz ofcourse has it's own branding, host and intro music to make it believeable as if it would be a real quiz. This was all created by me with a little help of AI for the raw voice sound, ofcourse all filtered trough the mood we wanted to set and guided by my vision of how this would look and feel.
The style of The Vault Quizzzz
For the creation of the style of The Vault Quizzzz I was most directly inspired by the frantic, crazy, kooky style of party games like the Jackbox series and Awkward, but I also got some inspiration from old Dutch gameshows like "Het Rad van Fortuijn" for example. I also used a part of the opening tune from "Het Rad van Fortuijn" as a little easter egg and threw it through weird FX like ring modulation. Another reason why I did this was to create the idea that this is a gameshow that could be a version of a gameshow from our reality for the people who recognize the theme song of "Het Rad van Fortuijn", further establishing this alternate reality vibe we were going for.
The overall branding for The Vault, which I created simultaniously uses a primarily purple and green color scheme to set the mysterious, crazy tone, as seen down below:
This color scheme was lightly inspired by the Joker from the Batman series who captures a part of this crazy, mysterious vibe aswell.
These were also the colors I ended up using for The Vault Quizzzz to create visual ties between the two as the branding of The Vault itself differs slightly establishing it is still a quiz about the brand.
Furthermore I studied the Jackbox games closely and came to the conclusion that the usage of custom frames for text were extra elements I needed to make to sell this quiz, so I made the following frames:
I choose to create more variations of the same frame so it would look more organic and thus less repeated. I also opted for a kind of knit handcrafted vibe to establish a bit of the weirdness I always feel when looking at the vibe of children shows like Sesame Street and other shows for really small kids which also feel sort of surreal to me in vibe somehow and I wanted to establish that here aswell to further form the alternate reality vibe we were going for.
This formed the base of the style and tone on which I based other design decisions like the font, use of the paper fold effect, glitches, the old tv noise, the blackhole, the theatre drapes and weird sound design for the voice.
This all together forms The Vault Quizzzz.
