Defining tomorrow's AI-centric wellness app

Team and Timeline

Solo Project

2 weeks (October 2024)

Introduction

Everwell is an AI-centric wellness app focused on reducing work-related stress and helping users learn to manage it. As AI continues to grow its presence in our daily lives, it's inevitable that using the acronym 'AI' will soon fade into the background, much like how we rarely mention 'electric' for everyday devices. The question becomes—

"How might we design tomorrow's wellness apps to effortlessly support busy professionals?"

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Difficulty managing stress and maintaining productivity

Context

The project centers around developing a health and wellness app for individuals in demanding work environments, particularly targeting professionals who use smart wearables like watches or rings to monitor their health and productivity throughout their workday.

AI is ever-growing its presence in our daily lives and will soon be incorporated into our lives seamlessly. The use of the acronym 'AI' will soon fade into the background, much like we rarely mention 'electric' when talking about everyday devices. The question becomes –

"How might we design tomorrow's wellness apps to effortlessly support busy professionals?"

Main Pain Point

Users struggle to manage stress and maintain a balanced lifestyle, with difficulty connecting their health data (like HR) to daily activities such as meetings or deadlines, resulting in burnout and decreased productivity.

Why This Is Important

Addressing this problem is essential to help users prevent long-term health issues, improve productivity, and maintain a healthier work-life balance, which is crucial for overall well-being and sustainable performance in fast-paced work environments.

RESEARCH & INSIGHTS

A clear gap in the market

Objective

Evaluate the landscape of wellness and productivity apps to understand gaps in existing solutions.

Competitors Analyzed

Oura, Garmin, Calm, Headspace

Key Findings

  • Garmin and Oura provide extensive data but lack direct integration with a user’s calendar.

  • Calm and Headspace focus on mental health but offer no connection to real-time biometric data like heart rate.

There was a clear gap for an app that bridges heart rate data with practical, work-day-specific insights to manage stress and productivity.

THE USERS

Who will be using this?

User Personas

When designing this project, two primary user personas were in mind:

  • The Stressed Professional, who needs quick stress management solutions

  • The Health-Conscious Worker, who seeks balance between mental well-being and work.

Both personas prioritize data-driven insights for managing health efficiently in their busy routines.

Customer Journey

The customer journey begins with awareness through health and productivity recommendations, followed by onboarding, where users sync their calendars and wearables. Throughout the day, users log their mood after events, receive tailored insights, and are encouraged to engage in wellness sessions. Daily check-in notifications and personalized insights powered by AI ensure retention.

User Flow

The user flow focuses on simplicity: users open the app, check event-based insights, log their moods, and receive real-time wellness feedback. This flow guides them from attending events to managing stress through actionable suggestions, all while collecting health data for AI-powered insights.

In the logomark – the infinity symbol represents 'ever', while the star reflects the app's personal insights, guiding users toward wellness. Together, they create a logomark symbolizing endless wellness.

CORE FEATURES

What the user can expect

AI Insights

Everwell takes an AI-first design approach with the use of adaptive, predictive, and generative AI. The user receives actionable insights based on the user’s historical HR data, mood, and activity patterns during specific calendar events. The AI predicts upcoming periods of potential stress or low energy, offering recommendations like:

– "You tend to feel stressed during Friday afternoon meetings. Try a quick breathing exercise before your next one at 15:00 later today."

Calendar Event Sync

Automatically pulls calendar events from the user's preferred calendar apps.

Post-Event Mood Mapping

Following each calendar event, users are notified and asked to log their emotional state.

Event-Based Insights

Once the mood is logged, the app provides insights based on the user's heart rate and mood during the event and similar events in the past.

Session Suggestions

The app suggests a short session to help the user reset – a session that works for the user. Guided meditations aren't for everyone, and if that's the case the adaptive AI recommends a session that is actually useful for the user, perhaps a brief walk.

Wellness Score

The dashboard displays a wellness score together with a summary their the user's stress levels in an accessible real-time diagram. Personalized insights are displayed below this for actionable advice to lower stress and improve emotional well-being.
