Website Design for Esport Matchmaking Service
Solo Project
Made in 2019
Introduction
Website design for an esports matchmaking service offering exceptional game server performance and industry-leading anti-cheat – providing players with the experience they want, even beg for, while no one else could offer it.
Game community rage and lack of modern, intuitive experiences
Counter-Strike is an online 5vs5 FPS game whose servers, at the time of this project, were jam-packed with cheaters, and no third-party service offered sufficient anti-cheat capabilities. The developer's game servers were inadequate for professional players, and even for the average player. Players replaced the local matchmaking service with third-party ones in hopes of better performance and a genuine cheat-free experience. Better performance was indeed achieved, the latter though is a different story.
Another aspect of the esports scene was the somewhat unintuitive ways of pairing teams together for practice sessions. The visuals of the existing websites took you back to Windows XP times – they lacked modern, clean, and easy-to-use interfaces which at the time was rapidly being adopted across the web.
Due to the community's and my own frustrations with the lack of solutions from the game developer's side–I was inspired to ask myself—"What could a website interface for the solution to this problem look like?"
