SerpVia: Brand Installation

Context

In April 2024, a search engine results page API (SERP API) reached out to me for a complete brand installation. A serp API is a tool that helps businesses quickly collect and organize search engine results from Google and other websites without having to manually search for them or build their own complicated pipelines. The CEO and I worked hand-in-hand for seven months––addressing everything from the external marketing pages, sign up/log in flow, and internal dashboard.

But Why an Ancient Rome Theme??

What does a SERP API have to do with Ancient Rome? At first glance, it might seem like nothing. However, SerpVia’s competitive edge lies in offering an elegant, simple API that lets you collect and pass data seamlessly—without the need for constant updates or rewriting code. The infrastructure of Ancient Rome stands is iconic for the same reasons:

  • • Simple

  • • Durable

  • • Elegant

  • Rome also has several idioms tied to its build quality:

  • • "Rome wasn't built in a day."

  • • "All roads lead to Rome"

Based on the brand questionnaire I use to kick off every brand installation, I knew the CEO was a big fan of Ancient Rome, which inspired us to go all-in on this theme. If you'd like a copy of the brand questionnaire I use with my clients, feel free to reach out—no email subscription, just a handy resource I've built over the past 10 years and I'd be happy to share.

Ultimately, the client decided to go in a different direction. This was a first for me in my career, and it was absolutely bittersweet. Pouring your heart and soul into good work you’re truly proud of, only for it not to be used publically, is a tough experience. Especially when you feel that there was great potential in the direction you proposed. That said, I absolutely love the 'SerpVia' brand, and it will live on here on my Dribbble page!

Happy designing, Clint
