Tintin – Procreate App, iPad Pro & Apple Pencil
Been awhile since I've Dribbbled something (lots of work projects in progress, all under wraps though) but in my spare time I've been getting back into sketching and drawing with the iPad Pro and Procreate. It's been a blast! So far I've spent my time focusing on recreating favorite comics from my childhood. This latest piece is from Hergé's "The Adventures of Tintin".
This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Hergé's Linge Claire (translates "Clear Line") style looks simple at first glance but features immense subtleties with the line movement, placement, and integrity. My hand is nowhere near as steady and so drawing clean arcs and confident strokes was no easy feat and I still didn't nail it. Straight lines are a piece of cake in Procreate, but circles and arcs were difficult. Great exercise though in strong lines with mostly flat color. I'm getting more comfortable with the Apple Pencil and Procreate on the iPad Pro.
I published the time-lapse from Procreate to YouTube as well, which you can watch here. It might be hard to see in the video but in order to get the cleanest lines I could I had to draw an initial stroke and then go back and add to and shave away at the line until I had a final stroke which looked right. Also at the beginning you'll see most of the sketched plane just pop in and that's because I originally had the wrong dimensions with my canvas, so I copy and pasted my work into a new document.
I've also uploaded the full-res final image which has better colors than what is shown in the photo above.
