Japan Athletic Trainers' Organization Logo

The Japan Athletic Trainers' Organization (JATO) is the professional membership association for certified athletic trainers and others who support the athletic training profession in Japan. The JATO was founded in 1996 and has become the official affiliate of National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) since 2014. There are about 200 members today, and the JATO has provided several membership benefits not only holding a symposium and a seminar that can provide continuing education units, but also providing sports medicine related information via social networking services to update members' knowledge. The JATO continues to contribute developing and promoting athletic training in Japan and Asia by collaborating with sports medicine and sciences related national and international organizations.

Challenge

Create a logo that echoes the style and branding of the NATA, while retaining JATO's own identity as the national professional organization for athletic trainers for Japan.

Solution

A simple callback to the "AT" in NATA's logo with the Rod of Asclepius to represent athletic training as a health care profession, with the minimalist imagery of a cherry blossom (sakura, 桜) incorporated, as chosen by popular vote by leaders of JATO. The "rising sun" motif and color red was chosen as well to reflect Japan in the visual identity.
