This was a group effort, we were tasked with adapting an excerpt of the script, "Waiting for Goddot" to our chosen genre and target audience.

We created a 5-minute comedic-thriller short film titled, ’Waiting for Grace’. Making use of lingo and humour relevant to the Gen-Z group (aka our target).

ABOUT THE SHORT FILM

Our version of the play is a comedic-thriller that follows 3 best friends. Where Esther (our antagonist) and Val (protagonist) wait in anticipation for their friend Grace (side character) to meet them so that they can go to Food-Truck Valley.

For the thriller part of our film, we added a twist that basically reveals that Esther had been jealous of the close friendship between Val and Grace. Following that feeling she had attempted to murder both Grace and Val the day before, with Grace dying and Val receiving amnesia. Esther keeps Val on her toes by constantly testing her knowledge, memory and events in the last 2 days. However, Val cannot stand Esther’s relentless questioning of her knowledge and does not conceal her annoyance of Esther. Towards the end of the film, Val slowly regains her memory and the audience gains context to what the story surrounds.

Our concept is showcasing feelings of betrayal and misunderstandings in friendship as well as how easy people can change. It also showcases psychopathic tendencies and how manipulative some people can be.

READING INTO CHARACTERS

Val - Protagonist: Naive, trusting, optimistic, open hearted, kind, prone to being easily fooled and taken advantage of.

Esther - Antagonist: Master manipulator through their persuasive nature, narcissistic, deceptive, constantly seeking control and revenge.

Grace - Side Character: Supportive, caring, mediator and selfless

My role Included: copywriting, planning, logo making and editing and compiling footage in premier pro.
