Welcome to the Wines of the World series, where today we're spotlighting Barbera. Recently, I’ve become captivated by the incredible diversity of wines from around the globe. Inspired by my New Year's resolution to create a new piece of work every day, I’ve embarked on designing a unique wine label for each type of wine I explore, capturing the essence and story behind each varietal.

About Barbera

Barbera is a vibrant, juicy red wine that originates from Italy's Piedmont region, where it's cherished for its versatility and food-friendly profile. Known for its high acidity, Barbera offers flavors of red cherry, blackberry, and raspberry, often complemented by subtle earthy or herbal notes. The wine typically has soft tannins, making it approachable and easy-drinking, yet it retains enough structure to hold up well to aging, especially when oaked. Barbera’s bright acidity and rich fruit make it an ideal match for Italian dishes like pasta, pizza, and roasted meats, while its adaptability has led to plantings beyond Italy, in places like California and Argentina. With a balanced, refreshing character, Barbera is a go-to wine for both casual meals and more refined pairings.
