Mr. Pumpkin Head
This has to be one of the favourite things I've made this year. The poster was actually a sketch from last year that I never found the time to finish. I love repeating characters and building out these worlds. I was determined to bring back Mr. Pumpkin Head and turn it into a full blown poster rather than a small character study.
I really enjoy using texture and took the opportunity to break out some of the Lithotone texture brushes from TrueGritTextureSupply. They really help make the piece pop and some really nice dynamics.
It was a nice excuse to play with some type. I was going for retro horror film poster here. The pumpkin head made a nice little icon too.
Finally, the sketch that started it all. I actually redrew the central character and the scenery a few times till I was happy with the final result. I really wanted the whole thing to be as dark and shadowy as possible, the only light appearing from the open door... the question is, just where is that light coming from?
