Don Toliver - LoveSick Tour

The Stage

During Rolling Loud in Los Angeles, we were in charge of designing Don Toliver's performance. It was a truly fascinating challenge that had us creating a considerable amount of visual content in a rather short time frame. Among all these visuals, there was one in particular that stood out for how perfectly it connected to the concept of Don Toliver's album: a diner, which represented the heart of the experience.

From there, the idea was born to take the 3D model of the animation we had already created and turn it into the central physical element of the stage, thus creating a visual experience that truly transported the audience into the narrative universe of the album. It was a process that allowed us to bring to life a vision that originally existed only in digital form, making the diner structure a physical extension of what we had conceived virtually.

The Visuals

The diner became the true star of the set, with the visual content projected onto a large LED wall positioned right behind it. This LED wall wasn't just a background, but rather an integrated part of the set, designed to blend and interact with the stage, creating a theatrical and immersive effect. The idea was for the diner not to be static, but to adapt to the different moods of the music: at times relaxed and welcoming, like a real late-night diner, other times energetic and dynamic, capable of transporting the entire building into different settings, such as surreal worlds, exotic climates, or even distant galaxies.

The main challenge was to make this transformation consistent between what was happening in the physical diner and what was happening on the LED screen, giving the show a cinematic and spectacular atmosphere. We worked on the interior details of the diner to ensure that even the inside reflected what was happening outside, adapting to changes in environment and mood, ensuring a seamless experience that left the audience captivated and immersed in Don Toliver's universe.

This project allowed us to explore the potential of bringing to life a stage design born in the digital world, and it was incredible to see how the diner transformed: at times bathed in warm, familiar lights, other times in flames like an action scene, or even lit by vibrant neon lights evoking retro atmospheres. The transition between these different settings brought the show to life in a way that was both musical and narrative, leaving a strong impression on anyone experiencing it live.
