CWB VA'A
Project Summary
CWB Va'a is an outrigger canoeing club located in Curitiba, Brazil. Despite not being a coastal city, Curitiba has beautiful lakes, rivers, and fresh water sources. The club takes advantage of that, making its home in one of the biggest lakes just outside of the busy streets of town.
CWB Va'a approached us with the intent of creating a logo that not only represented the city of Curitiba well, but also paid tribute to the origins of the sport. In order to do that, we drew inspiration from Polynesian cultures, looking into the deep symbolism that is carried in the art of the Pacific Islands. The final version of the logo emerged from this fusion of Māori inspired graphics, with a pine nut seed as a representation of Curitiba, known for its tall pine trees.
Although heavily inspired by Māori and Polynesian cultures, this design does not claim to be Māori, or from any other Polynesian culture. The goal is to seek inspiration from those cultures as a way to visually pay tribute to the ones responsible for the creation of the sport. With our utmost respect and admiration, we hope that we were able to achieve that goal.
