Lil Uzi Vert - Pink Tape Tour

In 2023, work began on Lil Uzi Vert's new tour, centered around a pink, futuristic, and dystopian aesthetic. The vision was to create an immersive experience that blended high-energy visuals with an otherworldly atmosphere, inviting the audience to step into a vibrant, yet slightly unsettling, futuristic reality.

The project involved multiple roles, including stage design, motion design, animation, and video editing. Each of these elements played a crucial part in developing a cohesive and dynamic show that kept the audience engaged throughout.

Stage Design

The work required a blend of both physical and digital efforts. It was essential not only to make the structures functional from an engineering standpoint but also to ensure they were visually appealing and aligned with the overall storytelling. This meant extensive collaboration between engineers, designers, and visual artists to bring the ambitious concepts to life. Prop design was key to making everything feel authentic, as if it belonged in an alleyway of a futuristic city, where the gritty details and neon-lit elements contributed to the overall atmosphere. The exterior design of the structures was also meticulously crafted to provide a cohesive stage appearance from every viewing angle, ensuring that no matter where the audience was located, they experienced the same level of immersion.

Content Production

Content production was particularly rewarding, involving the creation of many visuals that complemented the music and storytelling of the show.

The visual content had to adapt seamlessly with the setlist, creating an ever-changing backdrop that heightened the emotional and sensory experience for the audience. The storytelling was largely driven by "talking moments," where digital characters interacted with the artist on stage. These interactions added a narrative depth to the performance, as they depicted conversations that were both playful and thought-provoking, contributing to the dystopian theme.

To bring these moments to life, innovative motion capture technology was used, allowing us to create quickly high-quality content. The motion capture sessions involved mapping the movements of live actors to create realistic and expressive digital characters, ensuring that their interactions with Lil Uzi Vert felt as dynamic and engaging as possible. The team worked tirelessly to refine every detail, from facial expressions to body language, to ensure the digital characters felt alive and convincing on stage.
