Posters Collection | Vladimir Mayakovsky — The Iron Poet

Proud talented rebel Vladimir Mayakovsky has forever gone down in history. The extraordinary personality of the poet was direct, tough, his lines are addressed directly to the people. “Uncompromising, and therefore uncomfortable iron poet” - this is how contemporaries spoke about him.

The main task of the project was to convey in a series of posters for a literary evening the spirit of Mayakovsky - dark, disheveled and loud like his poems.

“A true poet always pays for his poemswith his life.”

The poet's path ended no less tragically.

On April 14, 1930, Mayakovsky committed suicide, shot in the heart with a pistol.

He was both rude and vulnerable. And boisterous and shy. And contemptuous and resentful. Both perceptive and naive. In short, he was a poet. And, apparently, if it were not for the totality of all these incompatible contradictions of his, turning into hell his whole life, he would not have become a poet of such a cosmic scale.

Mayakovsky had many romances, but none of them led to marriage. The greatest love of his life was Lilya Brik, who at the time of their acquaintance was already married. The triple romance of the poet was painful, dependent, and feelings turbulent and strong. Lily Brik's power over Mayakovsky was extraordinary.

“To the Iron Poet, an iron wreath.”

150,000 people came to his funeral. When he was taken in an armored car, there was not a single flower. There was only a metal wreath made of hammers, flywheels and screws. And on this wreath was written “To the Iron Poet, an iron wreath.”
