36 Days of Type 2024
2024 marked the first year 36 Days of Type would not be tied to specific days anymore, something the community was sad to hear. Regardless of this, many designers and artists decided to do their own to pay homage to the traditional community event, and I was no different.
I started strong, but life got in the way and it took me months to get around to finishing it. Now, however, I’m glad I stole time away to make it to the end.
There are many letters in this alphabet I would change, but part of the challenge is to accept what you create with as little judgement as possible, and share it anyway, inner critic be damned. And having created characters over the course of months (often going months between a single character) the style I was originally going for evolved as well, which is something I’m owning as part of the creative journey 🚀
It was a fun exercise to colour these, aiming for a marriage of harsh contrast and almost-overwhelm when seen all together.
Any of these characters could have worked with any colour, making it hard to choose, but it was interesting to let go of the control I usually prefer with things like this and just let instinct take the wheel.
