🎥 Reels be Real

Scrolling through Instagram can sometimes feel like flipping through a glossy magazine of everyone else's perfect lives. Picture-perfect meals, flawless fitness routines, and sunsets that look just a tad too pink to be real. It's easy to forget that behind every Reel is a director's cut full of outtakes.

So What If…

Imagine opening Instagram and seeing a Reel of someone baking a beautiful cake. It's pristine, frosted to perfection, with not a crumb out of place. But then, a banner pops up at the bottom: “Took 17 tries, burned 3 pans, and the final dish was actually from a takeout.” Suddenly, you're not feeling so bad about your own kitchen disasters.

But here's the kicker: For Instagram to actually pull off a Reality Check Banner, we'd either need users to be brutally honest (a big ask) or Instagram to invest in some seriously sophisticated AI. The former puts a lot of strain on users, and the latter, well, let's just say it's not exactly in Instagram's business model to burst our bubble.

So, why do we wish for a Reality Check Banner? Because it would bring us all a little closer to reality. It would remind us that behind every seemingly perfect moment is a lot of mess, effort, and sometimes, outright failure. And that's okay. It's authentic. It's human.

In a world where we're constantly bombarded with images of perfection, a dose of reality can be incredibly grounding. It can make us feel less alone in our struggles and remind us that it's okay not to have it all together all the time.

Until Instagram decides to keep it real with us (don't hold your breath), let's try to remember that not everything we see on the internet is as it seems. Behind every perfect Reel is a director's cut full of outtakes, bloopers, and reality checks waiting to be acknowledged. And maybe, just maybe, that's the content we should be celebrating.

So here's to keeping it real, one reel at a time. Or, you know, not.
