'Passport' - Inktober 10/7

Notes on the design

Inktober 10/7 - 'Passport'

Day 7 of the @jakeparker Inktober Challenge.

Sketched in 4H pencil, inked with Sharpie, digitized in Procreate*

*My original concept sketch was more asymmetrical than this version. I utilized the Symmetry drawing guide to create this cleaner effect.

I thought about adding shading, either with stippling or hatching, but decided to keep the minimal monoline style.

The story behind the piece

My most recent passport stamp is from Iceland, the Land of Fire and Ice, so I decided to do a quick tribute. Such a stunning country and an artist's dream!

The original idea when I thought about this prompt was a flat lay illustration in a badge form, to look like a more artistic, 'alternate' passport stamp, that would be recognizable and memorable with iconic Icelandic imagery.

I tweaked that idea a little bit, using the same line art illustration technique while bringing the subject off the page by adding some layering and perspective.

In the end, it has a stamp-look to it but tells a visual story about the place!
