Election Result Portal Design
Project Overview
The 2024 Sri Lankan Presidential Election result portal aimed to create a clean, user-friendly interface for accessing real-time election data. Designed for a diverse audience, including journalists and the general public, it focused on clearly presenting complex information to ensure a seamless experience, even during high-traffic periods.
The Challenge
The need for an intuitive layout that catered to varying technical expertise posed significant challenges. The design had to prioritize essential updates to avoid information overload while presenting complex electoral statistics clearly for non-technical users. It also required responsiveness across various devices, particularly mobile phones, as users would likely monitor results on the go. Additionally, neutral and credible visual language was vital to reflect the election's significance and avoid political bias.
The Solution
To tackle these challenges, I implemented a user-centered design approach focused on clarity and accessibility. The UI featured a minimalistic aesthetic, removing unnecessary elements to enhance usability and highlight live results. Data visualizations like graphs, progress bars, and interactive maps simplified complex information, allowing users to grasp key insights quickly. Accessibility was prioritized with high-contrast color schemes and legible typography for users with visual impairments. A mobile-first design strategy ensured full responsiveness, creating an intuitive experience for both tech-savvy and non-technical audiences.
Design for the Preferential Vote Results
In cases where no candidate received 50% of the votes, I created a clear section for the Preferential Vote results. The design emphasized simplicity, enabling users to easily follow the counting process.
Dynamic visualizations, including bar charts and progress indicators, displayed real-time vote distributions, while tooltips provided additional context without cluttering the interface. This design prioritized user engagement and comprehension, ensuring that even those unfamiliar with electoral processes could navigate and interpret the results effortlessly.
The collaborative effort of the team was instrumental in developing and releasing a successful project, reinforcing the importance of usability in high-pressure situations. Live Link to the project.
