Guest Center iPad – Timeline View

I joined OpenTable about 9 months ago and I've been working on restaurant-facing features and UIs — features that are designed so that employees working at the front desk of a restaurant can manage their reservations and walk-ins.

It's been a super interesting transition from working on consumer apps like Inbox that are focused on gaining a wide userbase to working on apps for professionals who use your software for hours at a time as part of their job.

One piece I've worked on recently is a Timeline View of reservations for our Guest Center iPad app. This view consolidates all of the reservations that are on the books for a restaurant for a shift (like Dinner) and shows them in a timeline. Each row represents one table in the restaurant and each column represents a 15 minute chunk of time. The different colors represent the progress of each party as they go from course to course in their meal.

It's an advanced feature for the kinds of restaurants who need to visualize and plan their evenings to fit as many guests as possible. We released it about two months ago and we've gotten lots of great feedback from some of our top restaurants.

Also, we're always looking for new product designers who are interested in working to create beautiful, useful products for restaurants and diners.
