Procedural Jellyfish

In my spare time I was dabbling in procedural animation in Houdini and after watching some tutorials this is the result finally!

The entire jellyfish is procedurally generated. I used a line as the basis for the upper part, which creates the shape with a bend and revolve sop. To make it look wobbly, I used an animated mountain sop aswell.

To make it move, I animated it along a line and worked with chops for the first time to refine the entire animation.

Vellum simulations were used for the tentacles, arms and internal organs.

Shading was a lot of fun, I painted a vein map and used some Redshift noises to create color variations and bump maps.

To make the background more interesting, I created some particles slowly floating in the water.

A spotlight with an animated caustics texture was used as the main light source as well as volumetric light to create the godrays.

The rendering was done with Redshift and some final adjustments in Nuke.

Feedback is always welcome!
