E is for Exuberantly Expressive Elephants
Notes on the design
Digital illustration in Procreate with Monoline pen (Relish) and Duplitone texture (from RSCO.)
E is for Elephant! The next in a pictorial letterform 'Animal Alphabet' series for practice.
Sticking with the minimal lines and basic shapes for a playful, kid-friendly style. I chose to keep the line work to create contrast from the background, but used the jungle green color to immerse the subject in scene a little more.
I also had some fun sneaking in several E shapes into the background jungle scene and pattern as a bonus!
The story behind the piece
Who doesn't love elephants! As the largest land animal on the planet, elephants are much more than huge, lumbering giants. Surely their trunks are one of nature's coolest, Swiss Army knife evolutionary features, but it's their brains that makes them even more fascinating.
Scientists have determined they are capable of complex thought, long-term memory, and deep emotions that rival our own: joy, anger, grief, compassion, and love. Elephants even attach to their family members with same lifelong bonds as our human species. (Source: PBS Nature)
