Editorial Collage Illustrations

For this project, I found an online editorial on The Washington Post and designed two new potential collage illustrations that would fit its messaging and tone.

My main takeaway from the editorial was that the author wanted people to feel very wary of the nuclear warheads being accumulated by Russia and China. What better way to represent the two countries than with their recognizable leaders? Once I had this in mind, I developed a couple of ideas involving missiles coming out of the heads of the two, with striking papercut style imagery and heavy use of the color red, as it's a "dangerous" color and has a connection to the flags of both Russia and China.

This is the actual image as used in the editorial. It's not bad, but as you can see it could certainly have been more attention-grabbing.
