Pixel art + more!
Character and Background art for my Indie RPG!
The main concept of the game is that:
The main character in white, Reinhardt, has to reconnect with his old friends after 5 years of no contact, and together they rebuild the Queendom, and train to take down monsters and ancient villains, by going through hurdles together as a party.
The game is based on classic strategy Role Playing Games released over the years, and is mostly story based, supplemented by combat and puzzles.
It is still very much in progress, as I am making the whole game alone in my free time, but I am pumping out a lot of art while I learn to code in Unity and compose my own music for the game.
The music and the actual game is not at a point where I have an appropriate prototype, but my art has made incredible progress.
This art style is very different from my regular art style because I am studying independent games and going for a more retro look. As well, I am using my more polished artstyle for the games we are making in the independent team (Raccoon Gaming) which I am the lead artist for.
Please feel free to scroll through the galleries below which show my artwork!
Below is the art of the six playable protagonists, used for when they are fighting monsters.
Also below are knee-up sprites used for viewing character details, like level, and their profile.
Older art
When the game used to be in the Pokemon universe, these pieces of art would represent the characters when they are battling. Most or all of this art will be altered and used for the final product!
Overworld art
These are supposed to be very small and represent the characters in the world they are in.
When dialog between characters occurs, there are icons with several expressions that pop up when they speak! Two examples for each character are below. I've put in a lot of work to make sure each character is unique in the way they look and emote!
My most recent work has been making photos that would pop up when changing areas, or interacting with objects. The photo below is a family photo of a protagonist, with his wife and two daughters. I'm making more images like these as a way to show (and not tell) details about the characters.
Below is old map designs from when the game was in the Pokemon universe. Because I cannot use the tilesets anymore, I am going through the process of drawing the houses, buildings, trees, paths, and textures individually. However this is a way to show off the way I designed the areas that the characters will interact with.
Finally, along with my characters I am making art for, I have been simultaneously world building. My most recent character design is of an old deity that is influential in the second arc of the story.
