Automating Wellness Wearable Device

Apollo is a wearable device that calms the nervous system, most commonly used for sleep, stress, and anxiety. To activate Apollo, the wearer must manually select a mode and turn it on within the app.

My team was tasked with building a feature that would automate this process, reducing effort and cognitive load for the wearer.

Based on user interviews and survey results, some Apollo wearers expressed frustration with the effort required to use the device. They would have to open the app and choose a mode and hit play, as well as wait some time to feel its effects. Why can't Apollo just turn on by itself?

We designed a schedule feature, accessible from the main nav bar. It allows users to create and edit schedules, optionally turn on sleep features, and configure vibes and flows in that schedule.

There were also some major changes we had to take into account. - Implementing a subscription based model ("Premium") - Replacing Modes with Flows and Vibes

Think of Vibes as a song, something short and sweet. Flows are more like DJ sets, a string of songs combined together in a way that makes sense for its purpose. Any Vibe could technically be used for waking up, but the Wake Up Flow was created specifically for that purpose.

To do this, we introduce a personalization survey at the beginning of app use for premium users. Personalization was also highly desired according to users. The survey questions were provided by CEO, Dr. Dave, and Mahi, Head of Research. The added benefit of course being more data collection.

For ease of development I used native iOS elements while incorporating custom components as needed. Initial beta testing found the schedule feature to be a major improvement, specifically for sleep.
